Nice way of conduct of Imam Hassan al-Mujtaba (a) toward a Syrian man

One day a Syrian man came to Medina and saw Imam Hassan (peace be upon him), who was riding a horse. He began to curse Imam, but Imam (a) did not say anything to him. When his cursing finished, Imam (a) went ahead, greeted him, and said smiling: “O old man, I think you are strange here and you may have mistaken me with someone else.

If you apologize for what you said, we will forgive you,

And if you ask us, we will grant you,

If you need guidance, we will guide you,

And if you want to do anything, we will help you,

If you are hungry, we will give you food,

And if you need clothes, we will give you,

If you are in need, we will make you rich,

And if you need a place to stay, we will accommodate you,

If you have any request, we will provide that for you,

And if you are a traveler, come to us and leave your belongings with us and be our guest until when you want to go, we will give them back to you, because we have a lot of space and property.

When the man heard the words of Imam (peace be upon him), he cried and said:

“I testify that you are the vicegerent of God in His earth. God knows better who to put his mission upon. Until now, you and your father were whom I was most angered upon, but now you are the best of God’s people to me.”

The man brought his properties and furniture to the house of Imam and was his guest while he was in Medina, and became a believer of his love.

This is some of the way of conduct of Imams, the successors of the Prophet (s), and the Proofs of God that show that they deserve being vicegerents of God and the sovereignty over the world.

So we should pray that God hastens the coming of the Twelfth Imam (a).
