Nice way of conduct of Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (as) toward the people of the book
Imam Ja’far ibn Muhammad al-Sadiq (as) said:
A man from the people of the book accompanied Amir al-Mu’minin Ali (as) in a way, while he did not know Imam. The man asked Imam: “where are you going?” Imam said: “To Kufa”. When they came to a junction, the man began to take the other path. Imam Ali (as) accompanied him some steps down his way. The man said: “Have you not intended to go to Kufa? Why are you coming this way? Do you not know that the path of Kufa is the other way?”
Imam Ali (as) said: “I know; but the command of our Prophet (s) is that the good manner of friendship and companionship is to escort your companion some of the way, and I came with you for this.”
The man said: “I am fascinated by the great morals of Islam and the followers of this religion. I testify to you that I accepted Islam.” Then, he embraced Islam at that moment.
