Quick apprehension, intellect, and scientific power of Amir al-Muminin Ali (as)
The knowledge of the master of the pious, Ali (as) was so extensive that he had full mastery of all mysteries and subtleties of various sciences, so that he would not be puzzled by any question or problem, and immediately and without slightest delay, would answer and solve it.
Imam Ali’s quick apprehension and intellect was so high that everyone got surprised by it, as Omar said: “O Ali (as), I am not surprised by your command in all scientific, legal and juridical issues, but what would surprise me is that you would answer any difficult question in any field immediately, and without thinking!”.
Imam (as) asked: “O Omar, how many fingers does my hand have?” Omar said: “five fingers.”
Imam said: “Then, why not you did think about the answer of this question?” Omar said: “This is obvious and does not need reflection.” Ali (as) stated: “All issues (sciences and secrets of the world) to me are like the five fingers of the hand to you (i.e. all issues, rules and sciences are present before me like this hand).
