Nice way of conduct of the Prophet (s) toward the Jewish Creditor

Good morality and nice behavior of the Prophet (s) in dealing with the community members are some of his noble virtues.

A Jewish man was a creditor of the Prophet Muhammad (s), and came to claim his own money. The Prophet (s) said: “Now I have no money (or anything) to give you.”

The Jewish man said: “O Muhammad, I do not let you go, until you give my money.” The Prophet (s) said: “So I will sit here with you” (meaning that I will stay with you to make you sure, and do not leave here until you allow me, and will stay by your house). It was noon, it was evening, and it was night, and the Prophet (s) performed Zuhr, ‘Asr, Maghrib and ‘Isha prayers at the same place. Some of the companions of the Prophet (s) became upset and threatened the Jew: “Why did not he give time to the man, who everyone trusts?”

The Prophet (s) said to his companions: ” What do you want of this man?” (meaning that you have no right to talk to him like that; he wants his money and he is right).

They said: “O Messenger of God! This Jewish man has detained you!” (meaning that he has kept you here since the morning).

The Messenger of God (s) said: “My Lord did not send me to oppress anyone” (whether Muslim or non-Muslim even for a dirham).”

The Prophet (s) sat by the man’s house all the night up to morning, and did not go home. He offered Subh prayer there. In the morning when the Jewish man came out of his house and saw the Prophet sitting there, his eyes were full of tears and said: “Your God has chosen the best one as His messenger. I testify to the Oneness of God and that you are the Messenger of God (he embraced Islam).

I endow half of my property on the path of God. I swear by God I did not make such a disrespect toward you but to see if your attributes match what I have read in the Torah?! For God said: The birth of Muhammad ibn Abdullah (s) is in Mecca and his migration to Medina. He is not rude (bad-tempered). He does not speak loudly, neither does he (a) use foul language and swears.

I bear witness to the Oneness of God and that you are the Messenger of God, and here is my money, decide on it as God has commanded.

Prayer or al-Ṣalāt (Arabic: الصلاة) is the most important worship of Muslims which is referred to by highly respectful and reverent phrases in the Qur’an and hadiths, such as the pillar of the religion, ascension of spirit, soul purifier, the first practice which will be questioned about on the Day of Judgement, and the requisite for the acceptance of good deeds. It is also mentioned in these sources that prayer wards the sins off, determines the border of faith and infidelity, and eliminates arrogance.
