Yahya b. Aktham, judge of Samarra said:
After many debates with Imam al-Jawad (s) and asking him various questions concerning the knowledge of the family of the Prophet Muhammad (s), one day when I was visiting the grave of the Prophet (s), I met Imam al-Jawad (a) and asked many more questions and received the answers to all of them. Then I said, “I swear to God, I have another question, but I am ashamed to ask it.”
Imam al-Jawad (a) said: “Before you ask the question, I will give you the answer myself. You want to ask if I am the Imam.”
I said, “Yes”.
Imam (a) said: “Yes, I am Imam.”
I said, “What is the sign?”
At this time, the cane in hand of Imam al-Jawad (a) began talking and said: “He (a) is my master. He is the Imam of the time and the proof of God.”
