Some people from Yemen went to the Prophet of Islam (s) and said, “we are from the land of Maqdam, from the descendants of Noah (s), who had a vicegerent called Sam and he mentioned in his book that every prophet has a miracle and a vicegerent; then who is your vicegerent?”
The Prophet (s) pointed to Imam Ali (a). They said, “O Muhammad, can your vicegerent to resurrect Sam, son of Noah (s), if we ask him so?” The Prophet (s) said, “yes, by the permission of God(Allah).” Then, he (s) told Imam Ali (a), “O Ali, go with them to the mosque near mihrab and hit your foot at the ground.” So, Imam Ali (a) went near mihrab with them while they had some scripts with them. He (a) performed two rak’as of prayer and then hit the ground with his foot and the earth split open and a coffin emerged and rose vertical and an old man with a very bright face came out of it and shook dust from his hair. He recited salawat upon Imam Ali (a) and said, “I give testimony that there is no god but God the Almighty and Muhammad (s) is the master of all prophets and you are truly his vicegerent and the best of vicegerents. I am Sam b. Noah (a).”
When those people opened their scripts, they saw the description matching him and said, “we want you to recite a chapter of [our] book”, and he began reciting up to the end of the chapter; then, he recited greetings on Imam Ali (a) and lied down in the coffin as he was and the coffin went down the split and it came together and the crowd of people together said, “Indeed, the religion before God is Islam” and they all became Muslim.
